Sun Solaris aspppls tool temporary file symlink attack
| solaris-aspppls-tmpfile-symlink (10105) |
Description:
Sun Solaris could allow a local attacker to launch a symlink attack, caused by a vulnerability in the aspppls tool. The aspppls tool creates the .asppp.fifo file in the /tmp directory insecurely. A local attacker could exploit this vulnerability by creating a symbolic link from .asppp.fifo to any other file on the system, which would allow the attacker to overwrite or create files on the system with root privileges.
Consequences:
File Manipulation
Remedy:
Apply the appropriate patch for your system, as listed in Sun Alert ID: 46903. See References.
