Description:

OSF/1 (now Hewlett-Packard Tru64 UNIX) is vulnerable to a buffer overflow in the Unix-To-Unix Copy Program (UUCP) utility. By passing an overly long string to the UUCP utility using the -s (source) command line option, a local attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system with root privileges.

Remedy:

Upgrade to the latest version of HP Tru64 Unix (5.1a or later), available from the Hewlett-Packard Web site. See References.

As a workaround, chmod u-s /path/to/uucp.
