| osf1-dxterm-xrm-bo (10148) |
Description:
OSF/1 (now Hewlett-Packard Tru64 UNIX) is vulnerable to a buffer overflow in the dxterm utility. By passing an overly long string to the dxterm utility using the -xrm command line option, a local attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system with root privileges.
Consequences:
Gain Privileges
Remedy:
Upgrade to the latest version of HP Tru64 Unix (5.1a or later), available from Hewlett-Packard's Web site. See References.
As a workaround, chmod u-s /path.to/dxterm.
