Description:

HP Procurve 4000M switches are vulnerable to a denial of service attack. The HP Procurve 4000M switch fails to check for proper authentication when processing device_reset? commands sent to a stacked switch. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending multiple device_reset? commands using HTTP requests to the "Commander" switch in a stack to cause the switch to continuously reset, which would deny services to legitimate users.

Remedy:

Upgrade to firmware version C.09.16 or later, as listed in Hewlett-Packard Company Security Bulletin HPSBUX0209-219. See References.
