SGI IRIX fsr_efs symlink
| irix-fsr-efs-symlink (10275) |
Description:
SGI IRIX is vulnerable to a symlink attack in the fsr_efs binary, which is installed by default as part of the "eoe.sw.base" package. A local attacker could create a symbolic link from the /var/tmp/.fsrlast file to any file on the system, which would be overwritten once fsr_efs is executed. An attacker could use this vulnerability to corrupt critical system files and possibly cause a denial of service or gain elevated privileges on the system.
Consequences:
File Manipulation
Remedy:
Upgrade to the latest version of IRIX (6.5.18 or later), as listed in SGI Security Advisory 20021103-02-P. See References.
— OR —
Apply the appropriate patch for your system, as listed in SGI Security Advisory 20021103-02-P. See References.
