Motorola Surfboard 4200 cable modem port scan denial of service

Description:
The Motorola Surfboard 4200 (SB 4200) cable modem is vulnerable to a denial of service attack. If a remote attacker port scans the cable modem user's IP address or an attacker from within the network port scans the cable modem's internal IP address using the nmap -p option, the attacker could cause the cable modem to crash. The device must be manually restarted to regain normal functionality.

Remedy:
Update the firmware to version 0.4.4.2, or to the latest version, as described in the messages at the Charter Pipeline Solutions Web site. See References.
