bogofilter contrib/bogopass tmp file symlink
| bogofilter-bogopass-symlink (10726) |
Description:
bogofilter is a Spam filter for email clients running on Linux and Unix-based operating systems. bogofilter version 0.9.0.4 with the contrib/bogopass Perl script installed creates the /tmp/bogopass.pid file with an easily guessable file name where pid is the process ID of the current process. A local attacker could create a symbolic link from the /tmp/bogopass.pid file to any known file on the system, which would be overwritten once a user executes the bogopass program. An attacker could use this vulnerability to corrupt any file on the system and possibly gain elevated privileges.

- SourceForge, bogofilter 0.9.0.4
Remedy:
Upgrade to the latest version of bogofilter (0.9.1 or later), available from the SourceForge.net Web site. See References.
