Apache Tomcat web.xml could be used to read files

Description:

Apache Tomcat could allow a remote attacker to obtain sensitive information, caused by a vulnerability when using trusted privileges to process the web.xml file. A remote attacker could use the web.xml file to read portions of other files on the Web server, and possibly obtain sensitive information.

Upgrade to the latest version of Tomcat (3.3.1a or later), available from the Apache Jakarta Project Web site. See References.

For Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 (woody):
Upgrade to the latest tomcat package (3.3a-4.1 or later), as listed in DSA-246-1. See References.

For HP-UX 11.00, 11.11, 11.20, and 11.22 :
Download and install the latest apache web server or tomcat servlet engine, as directed in Hewlett-Packard Company Security Bulletin HPSBUX0303-249. See References.

For other distributions:
Contact your vendor for upgrade or patch information.
