Apache Cocoon directory traversal allows downloading of boot.ini file

Description:

Apache Cocoon could allow a remote attacker to traverse directories on the Web server. If Cocoon is installed on the C:\cocoon\ directory of a Windows host, a remote attacker could send a specially-crafted HTTP request to the view-source script containing "dot dot" (/../) sequences in the filename variable, allowing the attacker to download the boot.ini file.

Remedy:

Upgrade to the latest version of Apache Cocoon (2.1 dated after 22 Oct 2003 12:00 or 2.2 (Development) dated after 22 Oct 2003 12:00), available from the Apache Cocoon Web site. See References.
