Description:
Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions (FPSE) is vulnerable to a denial of service, caused by a vulnerability in the FPSE SmartHTML (shtml.dll) Interpreter. A remote attacker could send a specially-crafted request to the vulnerable Web server to exploit the vulnerability in the SmartHTML Interpreter and cause the Web server to stop responding to requests temporarily.

Remedy:
Apply the appropriate patch for your system, as listed in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS03-051. See References.
For FrontPage Server Extensions 2002:
Microsoft originally released a patch for this vulnerability with MS03-051, but it was superseded by the patch released with MS06-017. See References.
