HP-UX recserv daemon can be made to consume excessive CPU resources

Description:

HP SharedX Receiver Service (recserv) is vulnerable to a denial of service attack. An attacker can send a specific amount of characters to the service to consume 100% of the CPU resources, which causes the service to be killed. The service must be restarted to regain normal functionality.

Remedy:

For HP-UX 10.01, 10.10, 10.20, and 11.00:
Apply the appropriate patch for your system, as listed in Hewlett-Packard Security Bulletin HPSBUX9810-086. See References.

NOTE: Earlier HP-UX systems may be affected, users should upgrade to a supported version and then apply the appropriate patches.
