Description:

Python is vulnerable to a buffer overflow, caused by a vulnerability in the getaddrinfo function. If IPv6 support is enabled, a remote attacker could supply an IPv6 address using (Domain Name System) DNS to overwrite memory and execute arbitrary code on the system.

Remedy:

For Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 (woody):
Upgrade to the latest python2.2 package (2.2.1-4.6 or later), as listed in DSA 458-3. See References.

For Gentoo Linux:
Upgrade to the latest version of python2.2 (2.2.2, < 2.2 or later), as listed in GLSA 200409-03. See References.

For other distributions:
Contact your vendor for upgrade or patch information
