Description:

xine could allow a local attacker to launch a symlink attack. The xine-bugreport and xine-check scripts insecurely handle temporary files. A local attacker could exploit this vulnerability by creating a symbolic link from a temporary file to any file on the system to cause the file to be overwritten, once the victim executes xine and creates a bug report email.

For Debian/GNU Linux 3.0 (woody):
Upgrade to the latest xine-ui package (0.9.8-5 or later), as listed in DSA-477-1. See References.

For Mandrake Linux:
Upgrade to the latest xine-ui package, as listed below. Refer to MandrakeSoft Security Advisory MDKSA-2004:033 : xine-ui for more information. See References.

Mandrake Linux 10.0: 0.9.23-3.1.100mdk or later
