tcpdump ISAKMP packet delete payload buffer overflow

tcpdump-isakmp-delete-bo (15680) The risk level is classified as MediumMedium Risk

Description:

The tcpdump utility is vulnerable to a denial of service, caused by a buffer overflow. If the verbose packet display function is enabled, a remote attacker could send a specially-crafted ISAKMP packet with a delete payload containing a large number of Security Parameter Indexes (SPI) to cause tcpdump to crash.

Consequences:

Denial of Service

Remedy:

Upgrade to the latest version of tcpdump (3.8.3 or later), available from the tcpdump Web site. See References.

For Trustix Secure Linux:
Upgrade to the latest tcpdump package, as listed below. Refer to Trustix Secure Linux Security Advisory #2004-0015 for more information. See References.

Trustix Secure Linux 1.5 and 2.0: 3.8.2-1tr or later
