Description:

xine could allow a remote attacker to overwrite arbitrary files on the system. By creating a specially-crafted Media Resource Locator (MRL) link, a remote attacker could overwrite arbitrary files on the system, once the victim clicks on the link and plays the malicious audio stream.

Remedy:

For xine-lib:
Upgrade to the latest version of xine-lib (1-rc3b or later), as listed in the xine security announcement XSA-2004-1. See References.

For xine-ui :
Upgrade to the latest version of xine-ui (0.99.1 or later), as listed in the xine security announcement XSA-2004-2. See References.

For Gentoo Linux:
Upgrade to the latest version of xine-ui (0.9.23-r2 or later) and xine-lib (1_rc3-r3 or later), as listed in GLSA 200404-20. See References.

For other distributions:
Contact your vendor for upgrade or patch information.
