Linux kernel i810 DMA lock denial of service

linux-i810-dma-dos (15972) The risk level is classified as MediumMedium Risk

Description:

Linux kernel is vulnerable to a denial of service. The i810 Direct Rendering Manager (DRM) driver fails to properly check the DMA lock. A local or remote authenticated attacker could send arbitrary values to the video card to cause the X server to crash or possibly modify video output.

Consequences:

Denial of Service

Remedy:

For Fedora Linux:
Upgrade to the latest kernel package (2.4.22-1.2188.nptl or later), as listed in the Fedora Update Notification FEDORA-2004-111. See References.

For Ubuntu Linux:
Upgrade to the latest linux-image package (2.6.8.1-16.3 or later), as listed in USN-38-1 December 14, 2004 for more information. See References.

For Red Hat Linux:
Refer to RHSA-2005:092-14, RHSA-2005:663-19, RHSA-2005:529-12, or RHSA-2005:551-09 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.

For other distributions:
Contact your vendor for upgrade or patch information.
