Description:

IBM AIX is vulnerable to a symlink attack. Logical Volume Manager (LVM) commands insecurely handle temporary files. A local attacker could create a symbolic link from a temporary file to an arbitrary file on the system, which could allow the attacker to overwrite files or cause a denial of service.

Remedy:

For IBM AIX 5.1:
Apply the APAR IY55681 patch, when it becomes available from the IBM Web site. See References.

For IBM AIX 5.2:
Apply the APAR IY55682 patch, when it becomes available from the IBM Web site. See References.

For other distributions:
Contact your vendor for upgrade or patch information.
