Exim header_check_syntax buffer overflow
| exim-headerschecksyntax-bo (16077) |
Description:
Exim is vulnerable to a stack-based buffer overflow, caused by improper bounds checking. If the headers_check_syntax setting is enabled in the exim.conf configuration file, which is not the default setting, a remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to overflow a buffer and possibly execute arbitrary code on the vulnerable system.
Consequences:
Gain Access
Remedy:
For Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 (woody):
Upgrade to the latest version of exim (3.35-3woody2 or later), as listed in DSA-502-1. See References.
For Gentoo Linux:
Upgrade to the latest version of exim (4.33-r1 or later), as listed in GLSA 200405-07. See References.
For other distributions:
Contact your vendor for upgrade or patch information.
