Linux kernel sctp_setsockopt integer buffer overflow

linux-sctpsetsockopt-integer-bo (16117) The risk level is classified as HighHigh Risk

Description:

Linux kernel is vulnerable to an integer overflow in the sctp_setsockopt function, when handling the SCTP_SOCKOPT_DEBUG_NAME socket option. A local attacker could exploit this vulnerability to overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system with kernel-level privileges.

Consequences:

Gain Privileges

Remedy:

Upgrade to the latest version of Linux kernel (2.4.6 or 2.6 or later), available from the Linux kernel Web site. See References.

For Trustix Secure Linux:
Upgrade to the latest kernel package, as listed below. Refer to Trustix Secure Linux Security Advisory #2004-0029 for more information. See References.

Trustix Secure Linux 2.0: 2.4.26-1tr or later
Trustix Secure Linux 2.1 and Enterprise Linux 2: 2.4.26-1tr or later

For other distributions:
Contact your vendor for upgrade or patch information.
