Description:

l2tpd is vulnerable to a buffer overflow in the write_packet function in the control.c file, caused by improper bounds checking of user-supplied input. By sending a specially-crafted packet, a remote attacker could overflow a buffer and possibly execute arbitrary code on the system.

For Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 (alias woody):
Upgrade to the latest l2tpd package (0.67-1.2 or later), as listed in DSA-530-1. See References.

For Gentoo Linux:
Upgrade to the latest version of l2tpd (0.69-r2 or later), as listed in GLSA 200407-17. See References.

For other distributions:
Contact your vendor for upgrade or patch information.
