Squid Web Proxy Cache NTLMSSP packet denial of service
| squid-ntlmssp-dos (17218) |
Description:
Squid Web Proxy Cache is vulnerable to a denial of service attack. The ntlm_fetch_string function in the ntlmauth.c file fails to properly validate negative values. By sending a malicious NTLMSSP packet, a remote attacker could cause Squid Web Proxy Cache to crash.
Consequences:
Denial of Service
Remedy:
Apply the squid-2.5.STABLE6-ntlm_fetch_string patch, available from the Squid Web Proxy Cache Web site. See References.
For Gentoo Linux:
Upgrade to the latest version of squid (2.5.6-r2, < 2.5 or later), as listed in GLSA 200409-04. See References.
For Mandrake Linux:
Upgrade to the latest squid package, as listed below. Refer to MandrakeSoft Security Advisory MDKSA-2004:093 : squid for more information. See References.
