Microsoft Internet Information Server WebDAV multiple attributes per XML elements cause denial of service

iis-webdav-xml-attribute-dos (17645) The risk level is classified as MediumMedium Risk

Description:

Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) is vulnerable to a denial of service attack when IIS is running WebDAV. WebDAV (Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning) is an extension to HTTP that allows users to create, edit, and share various documents over the Internet or an intranet. A remote attacker can send a specially-crafted WebDAV request containing multiple attributes per XML element to the Web server, which would cause the IIS service to stop responding.

Consequences:

Denial of Service

Remedy:

Apply the appropriate patch for your system, as listed in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS04-030. See References.
