Description:

Thomson (formerly Alcatel) SpeedTouch is vulnerable to a format string attack, caused by a vulnerability in the modem_run, pppoa2, and pppoa3 daemon. A local attacker could supply specially-crafted format string characters to the syslog function to execute arbitrary commands on the system.

Remedy:

Upgrade to the latest version of SpeedTouch (1.3.1 or later), available from the SourceForge.net Web site. See References.

Upgrade to the latest version of speedtouch (1.3.1 or later), as listed in GLSA 200411-04. See References.

For Mandrake Linux:
Upgrade to the latest speedtouch package, as listed below. Refer to MandrakeSoft Security Advisory MDKSA-2004:130 for more information. See References.
