Linux kernel IP packet denial of service

linux-ip-packet-dos (17800) The risk level is classified as MediumMedium Risk

Description:

Linux kernel is vulnerable to a denial of service attack, caused by an integer underflow in the iptables firewall logging rules. If firewalling is enabled, a remote attacker could send a specially-crafted IP packet to cause the system to crash.

Consequences:

Denial of Service

Remedy:

Upgrade to the latest version of Linux kernel (2.6.8 or later), available from the Linux Kernel Web site. See References.

For Debian GNU/Linux:
Refer to DSA-1017-1 or DSA-1018-2 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.

For SuSE Linux:
Upgrade to the latest kernel package, as listed below. Refer to SuSE Security Announcement SUSE-SA:2004:037 for more information. See References.

SuSE Linux 9.1: 2.6.5-7.111 or later

For SUSE Linux:
Upgrade to the latest kernel, as listed below. Refer to SUSE Security Announcement SUSE-SA:2005:018 for more information. See References.

x86:
SUSE Linux 9.2: 2.6.8-24.13 or later
SUSE Linux 9.1: 2.6.5-7.151 or later
SUSE Linux 9.0: 2.4.21-280 or later
SUSE Linux 8.2: 2.4.20.SUSE-131

x86-64 Platform:
SUSE Linux 9.2: 2.6.8-24.13 or later
SUSE Linux 9.1: 2.6.5-7.151 or later
SUSE Linux 9.0: 2.4.21-280

For Red Hat Linux:
Refer to RHSA-2005:366-21 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.

For Red Hat Linux:
Refer to RHSA-2005:293-16, RHSA-2005:293-16, RHSA-2005:283-15, or RHSA-2005:284-11 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.

For other distributions:
Contact your vendor for upgrade or patch information.
