Gentoo Portage dispatch-conf script symlink attack
| portage-dispatchconf-symlink (17986) |
Description:
The dispatch-conf script in Gentoo's Portage package could allow a local attacker to launch a symlink attack. The dispatch-conf script creates temporary files in the /tmp directory with predictable file names. A local attacker could use this vulnerability to launch a symlink attack by creating a symbolic link from a temporary file, which could allow the attacker to create or overwrite files on the system with privileges of the user running the script.
Platforms Affected:
- Gentoo, Linux
Remedy:
For Gentoo Linux:
Upgrade to the latest version of portage (2.0.51-r3 or later), as listed in GLSA 200411-13. See References.
