Description:

GD Graphics Library (gd) is vulnerable to a buffer overflow, caused by improper bounds checking when the gdMalloc function is called. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system with privileges of GD Graphics Library.

Remedy:

For Trustix Secure Linux:
Upgrade to the latest gd package, as listed below. Refer to Trustix Secure Linux Security Advisory #2004-0058 for more information. See References.

Trustix Secure Linux 2.2: 2.0.33-3tr or later

For Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 (alias woody):
Upgrade to the latest libgd package (1.8.4-17.woody4 or later), as listed in DSA-601-1. See References.

For Ubuntu Linux:
Upgrade to the latest libgd1-noxpm or gd1-xpm package (1.8.4-36ubuntu0.2 or later), as listed in USN-33-1 November 29, 2004. See References.

For Red Hat Linux:
Refer to RHSA-2006:0194-4 or RHSA-2004:638-14 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.
