Linux kernel AF_UNIX race condition
| linux-afunix-race-condition (18230) |
Description:
Linux kernel is vulnerable to a race condition, caused by a vulnerability in the AF_UNIX address family. A local attacker could exploit this vulnerability to modify arbitrary kernel memory and gain elevated privileges or possibly execute arbitrary code on the system.
Consequences:
Gain Privileges
Remedy:
Upgrade to the latest version (2.4.28 or later), available from the Linux Kernel Web site. See References.
For Red Hat Linux:
Upgrade to the latest kernel package, as listed below. Refer to RHSA-2004:549-10 for more information. See References.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Desktop and ES, AS, WS (v. 3): 2.4.21-20.0.1.EL or later
For Ubuntu Linux:
Upgrade to the latest linux-image package (2.6.8.1-16.3 or later), as listed in USN-38-1 December 14, 2004 for more information. See References.
For Debian GNU/Linux:
Refer to DSA-1070-1, DSA-1069-1, DSA-1067-1, or DSA-1082-1 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.
For other distributions:
Contact your vendor for upgrade or patch information.
