Linux kernel ip_mc_source code execution
| linux-ipmcsource-code-execution (18481) |
Description:
Linux kernel could allow a local attacker to gain elevated privileges on the system, caused by a vulnerability in the IGMP (Internet Goup Management Protocol) implementation. A local attacker could call the ip_mc_source function to gain elevated privileges, and possibly execute arbitrary code or cause the system to crash.
Consequences:
Gain Privileges
Remedy:
For Trustix Secure Linux:
Upgrade to the latest kernel package, as listed below. Refer to Trustix Secure Linux Security Advisory #2004-0068 for more information. See References.
Trustix Secure Linux 2.0: 2.4.28-7tr or later
Trustix Secure Linux 2.1: 2.4.28-7tr or later
Trustix Secure Linux 2.2: 2.4.28-7tr or later
For Ubuntu Linux:
Upgrade to the latest linux-image package (2.6.8.1-16.3 or later), as listed in USN-38-1 December 14, 2004 for more information. See References.
For Red Hat Linux:
Refer to RHSA-2005:092-14 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS, ES, WS (v.3) and Red Hat Desktop 3: 2.4.21-27.0.1 or later
For other distributions:
Contact your vendor for upgrade or patch information.
