MPlayer Bitmap heap overflow

Description:
MPlayer is vulnerable to a heap overflow, caused by improper bounds checking in the demux_open_bmp function in the /libmpdemux/demux_bmp.c file. By creating a specially-crafted Bitmap file containing a large lbiClrUsed field, a remote attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system with elevated privileges, once the file is opened.

Remedy:
Apply the bmp_fix_20041215.diff patch for this vulnerability, as listed in iDEFENSE Security Advisory 12.16.04. See References.
