Description:
The Common Unix Printing System (CUPS) could allow a local attacker to modify the passwd file, caused by a vulnerability in the lppasswd utility. A local attacker could write a user-controlled error message to the passwd file.

Remedy:
Upgrade to the latest version of CUPS (1.1.23rc1 or later), as listed in the CUPS Software Trouble Report #1023. See References.

Upgrade to the latest version (1.1.20final+cvs20040330-4ubuntu16.3 or later), as listed in USN-50-1 December 23, 2004 for more information. See References.
