Kerberos libkadm5srv buffer overflow
| kerberos-libkadm5srv-bo (18621) |
Description:
Kerberos is vulnerable to a heap-based buffer overflow in the libkadm5srv administration library, caused by a vulnerability in the password history handling code. Under certain conditions, a remote authenticated attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system.
Consequences:
Gain Access
Remedy:
Upgrade to the latest version of Kerberos (krb5-1.4 or krb5-1.3.6 or later), when it becomes available from the MIT Kerberos Web site. See References.
—OR—
Apply the 2004-004-patch_1.3.5, available from the MIT Kerberos Web site. See References.
For Trustix Secure Linux:
Upgrade to the latest kerberos5 package, as listed below. Refer to Trustix Secure Linux Security Advisory #2004-0069 for more information. See References.
Trustix Secure Linux 2.2: 1.3.6-2tr or later
Trustix Operating System Enterprise Server 2: 1.3.6-1tr or later
For Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 (woody):
Upgrade to the latest package of krb5 (1.2.4-5woody7 or later), as listed in Debian Security Advisory DSA-629-1. See References.
For Ubuntu Linux:
Upgrade to the latest krb5-admin-server, krb5-kdc, libkadm55 and libkrb53 package (1.3.4-3ubuntu0.1 or later), as listed in USN-58-1 January 10, 2005 for more information. See References.
For Red Hat Linux:
Refer to RHSA-2005:045-13 or RHSA-2005:012-10 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.
For Gentoo Linux:
Refer to Gentoo Linux Security Announcement GLSA 2005-01-05 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.
For other distributions:
Contact your vendor for upgrade or patch information.
