HP-UX ftpd buffer overflow
| hp-ftpd-bo (18636) |
Description:
HP-UX is vulnerable to a stack-based buffer overflow in the file transfer protocol (FTP) daemon. If ftpd is configured in the /etc/inetd.conf configuration file to log debug information using the -v switch, which is not the default configuration, a remote attacker could send a long command request to overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system with FTP privileges, possibly root.
Consequences:
Gain Privileges
Remedy:
For HP-UX B.11.22:
Apply the PHNE_29462 patch or later, as listed in iDEFENSE Security Advisory 12.21.04. See References.
For HP-UX B.11.11:
Apply the PHNE_29461 patch or later, as listed in iDEFENSE Security Advisory 12.21.04. See References.
For HP-UX B.11.04:
Apply the PHNE_31034 patch or later, as listed in iDEFENSE Security Advisory 12.21.04. See References.
For HP-UX B.11.00:
Apply the PHNE_29460 patch or later, as listed in iDEFENSE Security Advisory 12.21.04. See References.
For wu-ftpd 2.6:
Apply the PHNE_31034 patch or later, as listed in Hewlett-Packard Security Bulletin HPSBUX01118. See References.
