LibTIFF TIFF file dir_count integer overflow
| libtiff-tiff-tdircount-bo (18637) |
Description:
LibTIFF is vulnerable to an integer overflow, caused by improper validation of user-supplied input when calculating a directory entry's size. By creating a TIFF file containing a specially-crafted tdir_count value, a remote attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system with user privileges, once the victim opens the file.
Consequences:
Gain Access
Remedy:
Upgrade to the latest version of LibTIFF (3.7.1 or later), available from the LibTIFF Web site. See References.
For Ubuntu Linux: Upgrade to the latest libtiff4 package (3.6.1-1.1ubuntu1.1 or later), as listed in USN-46-1 December 22, 2004 for more information. See References.
For Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 (woody):
Upgrade to the latest version of tiff (3.5.5-6.woody3 or later), as listed in DSA-617-1. See References.
For Turbolinux:
Upgrade to the latest libtiff package, as listed below. Refer to Turbolinux Security Advisory TLSA-2005-4 for more information. See References.
