Description:

Linux Security Modules (LSM) could allow a local attacker to gain elevated privileges, caused by a vulnerability when loading the Capability LSM Module as a loadable kernel module. A local attacker could exploit this vulnerability to gain elevated privileges on the system, typically root.

For Ubuntu Linux:
Upgrade to the latest linux-image package (2.6.8.1-16.8 or later), as listed in USN-57-1 January 09, 2005 for more information. See References.

As a workaround, ensure that the Capability LSM module is only used when compiled into the kernel.
