Description:

GATOS could allow a local attacker to gain elevated privileges, caused by a vulnerability in xatitv, one of the programs in the GATOS package. xatitv, which is installed setuid to allow direct access to video hardware, is vulnerable to a buffer overflow in the exported_display function in xutils.c file. A local attacker could exploit this vulnerability to possibly execute arbitrary commands on the system with root privileges.

For Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 (woody): Upgrade to the latest GATOS package (0.0.5-6woody3 or later), as listed in DSA-640-1. See References.
