Perl PERLIO_DEBUG environment variable file overwrite

Description:
Perl (Practical Extraction and Reporting Language) could allow a remote attacker to overwrite arbitrary files, caused by a vulnerability in the handling of the debug message in the PERLIO_DEBUG environment variable. When Perl is installed with setuid support (sperl), a local attacker could modify the PERLIO_DEBUG environment variable to overwrite arbitrary files on the system.

Remedy:
For Ubuntu Linux:
Upgrade to the latest perl package (5.8.4-2ubuntu0.3 or later), as listed in USN-72-1 February 02, 2005. See References.
