Linux kernel VM_IO denial of service
| linux-kernel-vmio-dos (19275) |
Description:
Linux kernel is vulnerable to a denial of service, caused by improper marking of memory of multiple drivers with the VM_IO flag. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to cause a denial of service.
Consequences:
Denial of Service
Remedy:
For Red Hat Linux:
Upgrade to the latest kernel package, as listed below. Refer to RHSA-2005:016-13, RHSA-2006:0140-9, or RHSA-2005:017-14 for more information. See References.

- CVE-2004-1057: Multiple drivers in Linux kernel 2.4.19 and earlier do not properly mark memory with the VM_IO flag, which causes incorrect reference counts and may lead to a denial of service (kernel panic) when accessing freed kernel pages.
