Microsoft Windows LAND denial of service
| win-server-xp-land-dos (19593) |
Description:
Microsoft Windows is vulnerable to a LAND attack, resulting in a denial of service. If the Windows Firewall has been turned off, a remote attacker could send a specially-crafted TCP packet with the SYN flag set to consume 100% of the available CPU resources and cause the system to crash.
Consequences:
Denial of Service
Remedy:
Apply the appropriate patch for your system, as listed in the latest Microsoft Security Bulletin. See References.
— OR —
Use Microsoft Automatic Update if it is supported by your operating system. The original bulletin issued by Microsoft has been superseded.
