Mozilla plug-in cross-site scripting
| mozilla-plugin-xss (20125) |
Description:
Mozilla Firefox is vulnerable to cross-site scripting caused by a vulnerability of user-supplied information to the search plug-in. A remote attacker could create a specially-crafted sherlock file containing malicious script in a URL request which, once the link is clicked, would be executed in the victim's active tab within the security context of the hosting site. An attacker could use this vulnerability to steal the victim's cookie-based authentication credentials. Once a privileged page is loaded, an attacker can use a search engine to execute arbitrary code on the system or take actions as the victim.
Note:
The attacker could exploit the active tab to overwrite an existing search and supply a search site of his own choosing or track the user's search history.
Netscape version 7.2 and possibly earlier versions are also affected by this vulnerability.
