IRIX netprint command contains a local root compromise

Description:
A vulnerability within the netprint command could be used by a local attacker to gain root privileges.

Remedy:
For SGI IRIX 5.3 and 6.1:
Apply the 1685 patch, as listed in Silicon Graphics Inc. Security Advisory 19961203-02-PX. See References.
For SGI IRIX 6.2:
Apply the 2022 patch, as listed in Silicon Graphics Inc. Security Advisory 19961203-02-PX. See References.
NOTE: Users of other affected IRIX versions should upgrade to a supported release and then apply one of the above patches (if necessary).
As a workaround, until upgrades or patches can be made, disable the printing subsystem with the following command:
/usr/sbin/versions -v remove print
