Description:

Cacti is vulnerable to SQL injection caused by improper validation of user-supplied input in the config_settings.php script in the graph creation tool. A remote attacker could send specially-crafted SQL statements to the config_settings.php script using the id variable, which would allow the attacker to add, modify, or delete data from the database or possibly gain unauthorized access to the administrative password.

Remedy:

Upgrade to the latest version of Cacti (0.8.6e or later), available from the Cacti Download Web page. See References.

As a workaround, ensure access to the Web server is limited to trusted hosts.

For Gentoo Linux:
Upgrade to the latest version of cacti (0.8.6e or later), as listed in GLSA 200506-20. See References.

For Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 (Sarge):
Upgrade to the latest version of cact (0.8.6c-7sarge2 or later), as listed in DSA-764-1. See References.

For Conectiva Linux 9.0 and 10.0:
Upgrade to the latest version of cacti (0.8.6f or later), as listed in Conectiva Linux Announcement CLSA-2005:978. See References.

For other distributions:
Contact your vendor for upgrade or patch information.
