EKG czyjest and handle_keypress functions symlink attack
| ekg-symlink (21257) |
Description:
Eksperymentalny Klient Gadu-Gadu (EKG) could allow a local attacker to launch a symlink attack caused by a vulnerability in the czyjest and handle_keypress() functions in the contrib/scripts/linki.py. EKG creates insecure temporary files. A local attacker could exploit this vulnerability by creating a symbolic link from a critical EKG file to the /tmp/rmrmg_ekg_url file. When the user runs EKG, the link will be activated as a temporary file that runs automatically. This will allow the attacker to create or overwrite arbitrary files on the system with the privileges of the targeted user running EKG.
Platforms Affected:
- Canonical, Ubuntu 5.04
- Debian, Debian Linux 3.1
- Devnull, Eksperymentalny Klient Gadu-Gadu 2005-06-05 and prior
