Linux kernel XFRM code denial of service
| linux-kernel-xfrm-dos (21710) |
Description:
Linux kernel is vulnerable to a denial of service attack caused by improper bounds checking of user-supplied input in the xfrm_sk_policy_insert function in the XFRM code. A local attacker could use this vulnerability to overflow a buffer and cause the system to crash.
Consequences:
Denial of Service
Remedy:
Upgrade to the latest version of Linux Kernel (2.6.13-rc4 or later), available from The Linux Kernel Archives Web page. See References.
For SUSE Linux:
Upgrade to the latest version of kernel, as listed below. Refer to SUSE Security Announcement SUSE-SA:2005:050. See References.
X86 platform:
SUSE Linux 9.3: 2.6.11.4-21 or later
SUSE Linux 9.2: 2.6.8-24.18 or later
SUSE Linux 9.1: 2.6.5-7.201 or later
x86-64 platform:
SUSE Linux 9.3: 2.6.11.4-21.9 or later
SUSE Linux 9.2: 2.6.8-24.18 or later
SUSE Linux 9.1::2.6.5-7.201 or later
For Debian GNU/Linux:
Refer to DSA-921-1 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.
For Red Hat Linux:
Refer to RHSA-2005:514-46 or RHSA-2005:663-19 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.
For Ubuntu Linux:
Refer to USN-169-1 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.
For other distributions:
Contact your vendor for upgrade or patch information.
