ProZilla ftpsearch buffer overflow

prozilla-ftpsearch-bo (22491) The risk level is classified as HighHigh Risk

Description:

ProZilla is vulnerable to a stack-based buffer overflow caused by a boundary error in ftpsearch.c. A remote attacker, in control of a malicious server, could reply to a search result using the get_string_ahref function of the ftpsearch.c file containing malicious string in the HREF attribute of the <A> tag. This could enable the attacker to overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system with privileges of the ProZilla user.

NOTE: Successful exploitation depends on IF 1) the search is retrieved using the ProZilla -ftpsearch option and 2) the DNS cache is poisoned by the attacker.

Consequences:

Gain Access

Remedy:

Apply the latest fix (libprozilla), available from the ProZilla CVS repository. See References.

For Debian GNU/Linux:
Refer to DSA-834-1 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.
