UW-IMAP mailbox name buffer overflow
| uw-imap-mailbox-name-bo (22518) |
Description:
UW-IMAP is vulnerable to a buffer overflow caused by improper bounds checking of mailbox names by the mail_valid_net_parse_work() function. By sending a specially-crafted mailbox name containing a quote (") character, a remote attacker with valid credentials could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system with the privileges of the IMAP server.
Consequences:
Gain Access
Remedy:
Upgrade to the latest version of IMAP (imap-2005g or later), available from the UW-IMAP Web site. See References.
For Red Hat Linux:
Refer to RHSA-2005:848-6 or RHSA-2005:850-5 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.
For Red Hat Linux (php-imap):
Refer to RHSA-2006:0501-6 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.
For Gentoo Linux:
Refer to Gentoo Linux Security Announcement GLSA 2005-10-10 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.
