zoo parse.c parse() buffer overflow
| zoo-parse-bo (25264) |
Description:
zoo is vulnerable to a buffer overflow, caused by improper bounds checking by the parse() function in parse.c file. By creating a specially-crafted archive containing an overly long pathname, a local attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system once the archive is opened by the target victim.
Consequences:
Gain Privileges
Remedy:
For Gentoo Linux:
Refer to GLSA 200603-12 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.
For other distributions:
Contact your vendor for patch or upgrade information.

- CVE-2006-1269: Buffer overflow in the parse function in parse.c in zoo 2.10 might allow local users to execute arbitrary code via long filename command line arguments, which are not properly handled during archive creation. NOTE: since this issue is local and not setuid, the set of attack scenarios is limited, although is reasonable to expect that there are some situations in which the zoo user might automatically list attacker-controlled filenames to add to the zoo archive.
