Linux kernel SCTP parameter handling denial of service

linux-sctp-parameter-dos (26585) The risk level is classified as MediumMedium Risk

Description:

The Linux kernel Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) module could allow a remote attacker to cause a denial of service, caused by improper handling of parameter chunk lengths. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending specially crafted packet to cause the system to crash.

Consequences:

Denial of Service

Remedy:

Upgrade to the latest version of Linux kernel (2.6.16.18 or later), available from The Linux Kernel Archives Web site. See References.

For Debian GNU/Linux:
Refer to DSA-1097-1 and DSA-1103-1 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.

For Red Hat Linux:
Refer to RHSA-2006:0617-15 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.

For SUSE Linux:
Refer to SUSE-SA:2006:047 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.

For other distributions:
Apply the appropriate update for your system. See References.
