Quake 3 engine CS_ITEMS buffer overflow
| quake3-csitem-bo (27616) |
Description:
Multiple game servers based on the Quake 3 engine are vulnerable to a stack-based buffer overflow, caused by improper bounds checking by the CS_ITEMS module. By sending an overly long CS_ITEM value to a client, a remote attacker in control of a malicious game server could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system or cause the application to crash, if the attacker could persuade a potential victim to connect to the malicious server.
