3Com TippingPoint IPS page fault detection bypass

tippingpoint-ips-pagefault-detection-bypass (27934) The risk level is classified as MediumMedium Risk

Description:

3Com TippingPoint IPS (Intrusion Prevention System) devices running certain versions of TOS (TippingPoint Operating System) could allow a remote attacker to bypass detection mechanisms or cause a denial of service. By sending a malformed packet to an affected device, a remote attacker could cause a page fault which would result in the device switching to Layer 2 Fallback (L2FB) mode. Depending on device configuration, once in L2FB mode, the device would either block all traffic or allow all traffic to pass through the device, bypassing security detection.
