Wireshark (Ethereal) SSCOP dissector denial of service
| wireshark-sscop-dos (28556) |
Description:
Wireshark (formerly known as Ethereal) is vulnerable to a denial of service. If the SSCOP payload protocol is Q.2931 and the SSCOP dissector is configured with a port range, which is not the default setting, a remote attacker could send a specially-crafted packet causing the Q.2931 dissector to consume all available memory resources.
Platforms Affected:
- Debian, Debian Linux 3.1
- Gentoo, Linux
- RedHat, Enterprise Linux 2.1 ES
- RedHat, Enterprise Linux 2.1 AS
- RedHat, Enterprise Linux 2.1 WS
- RedHat, Enterprise Linux 3 Desktop
- RedHat, Enterprise Linux 3 ES
- RedHat, Enterprise Linux 3 WS
- RedHat, Enterprise Linux 3 AS
- RedHat, Enterprise Linux 4 AS
- RedHat, Enterprise Linux 4 Desktop
- RedHat, Enterprise Linux 4 ES
- RedHat, Enterprise Linux 4 WS
- RedHat, Enterprise Linux AS
- RedHat, Enterprise Linux WS
- RedHat, Enterprise Linux ES
- RedHat, Linux Advanced Workstation 2.1 Itanium
- Wireshark, Wireshark 0.7.9 - 0.99.2
Remedy:
Upgrade to the latest version of Wireshark (0.99.3 or later), as listed in Wireshark Security Advisory wnpa-sec-2006-02. See References.
For Gentoo Linux:
Refer to Gentoo Linux Security Announcement GLSA 200608-26 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.
For Debian GNU/Linux:
Refer to DSA-1171-1 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.
For Red Hat Linux:
Refer to RHSA-2006:0658-14 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.
Consequences:
